Aligned with Our Niche
As we've discussed before, we are not only blessed but also entrusted with the important responsibility to use our natural and spiritual abilities (Matthew 25:14-30.) When we take on leadership roles—whether as teachers, preachers, pastors, or group leaders—we are tasked with guiding each group member to discover and utilize their unique abilities.
If you live in a city without a church and want to grow your group into a church, it's essential to train leaders and volunteers. Encourage them to serve in areas where they feel passionate. This approach empowers them and infuses a unique energy and commitment into their tasks.
People must serve based on their abilities and availability rather than feeling pressured. Assigning a task to someone who lacks the capacity or interest can quickly lead to burnout. Leaders must take the time to understand their group's God-given abilities and interests to assign tasks accordingly and prevent exhaustion. Here are some ways to learn about your group.
Option 1: Communicate your vision to your group. If you need more administrative skills, seek help from someone who can effectively convey your vision, needs, and the qualifications required for each leadership role. Afterward, encourage the group to pray earnestly. Trust that God will instill a desire in members' hearts to respond to the call. He may also bring in new members with the qualities needed to help build the church!
Option 2: Let your group know you want to identify each person's unique abilities. Ask them to share stories about accomplishments that made them feel energized and proud the following week.
When the group meets, encourage everyone to listen carefully and pay attention to both body language and tone of voice when someone is sharing. People often engae in ordinary topics in a monotonous manner, but when they talk about something they are genuinely excited about, their voice and body language convey that enthusiasm. For instance, a plumber who is frustrated with fixing broken pipes might speak in a dull tone. However, if he’s passionate about fixing computers—even if it's just a hobby—his voice will be lively as he shares his knowledge. When people discuss their favorite activities, they tend to express themselves with energy and excitement, which can help you identify their niche.
After everyone has shared their story, invite group feedback on each individual. This way, everyone gets to hear insights from others about their natural abilities. Identifying each person’s passion is crucial for building a dynamic and strong team or church. Encourage individuals to participate in activities or ministries that align with their strengths. For example, one person may enjoy writing a skit, while another might love performing it. The goal is to create a team that can put on a great show for the group or even for larger audience.
Members who actively serve in a ministry contribute more to their church or group than those who do not. Therefore, when everyone participates according to their passions and strengths, the church or group can grow and thrive:
"In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." Romans 12:6-8
So, let us inspire one another and unite in our mission to expand the kingdom of our Lord through service to each other.
