Aligned with Our Niche
As we've discussed before, we are not only blessed but also entrusted with the important responsibility to use our natural and spiritual abilities (Matthew 25:14-30.) When we take on leadership roles—whether as teachers, preachers, pastors, or group leaders—we are tasked with guiding each group member to discover and utilize their unique abilities.
If you live in a city without a church and want to grow your group into a church, it's essential to train leaders and volunteers. Encourage them to serve in areas where they feel passionate. This approach empowers them and infuses a unique energy and commitment into their tasks.
People must serve based on their abilities and availability rather than feeling pressured. Assigning a task to someone who lacks the capacity or interest can quickly lead to burnout. Leaders must take the time to understand their group's God-given abilities and interests to assign tasks accordingly and prevent exhaustion. Here are some ways to learn about your group.
Option 1: Inform your group of your desire to explore and discover their unique abilities. Share your vision for the final goal with everyone. If you need more administrative skills, seek assistance from someone who can help convey your vision, needs, and the qualifications required for each new position, including leadership and support teams. Encourage the group to pray earnestly for guidance, trusting that God will inspire a desire in their hearts to respond to the call. In addition to your current members, God may also bring in new individuals with the qualities needed to help build the church!
Option 2: Start by letting your group know you want to identify everyone's unique abilities. Ask each member to share stories the following week about accomplishments that made them feel energized and proud.
When the group gathers, encourage everyone to listen attentively by paying attention to body language and tone of voice while someone shares their story. Often, individuals discuss ordinary topics monotonously, but their enthusiasm shines through when they talk about things they genuinely enjoy. For example, a plumber may sound unexciting when talking about fixing broken pipes. However, if he is passionate about repairing computers—even as a hobby—his voice will come alive as he shares his knowledge. When people talk about their favorite activities, their energy and excitement can help you identify their niche.
After everyone has shared their story, invite feedback on each group member. It will help everyone hear insights from others about their natural abilities. Identifying each person's passion is essential for building a strong, dynamic team or church. Encourage members to engage in activities or ministries that align with their strengths. For instance, one person may enjoy writing a skit, while another might love performing it. The goal is to create a cohesive team that can put on an excellent show for the group or a larger audience.
Members who actively serve in a ministry contribute more to their church or group than those who do not. Therefore, when everyone participates according to their passions and strengths, the church or group can grow and thrive:
"In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." Romans 12:6-8
So, let us inspire one another and unite in our mission to expand the kingdom of our Lord by serving each other.
